- K-12 outreach: Presentations and classroom activities highlighting grain biology, cultivation and nutrition at a private school in the Sarasota/Manatee area, 4 classes with ~60 students, Clore Lab (NCF), May 15, 2014.
- K-12 Outreach: Tour of the university greenhouses and laboratories (including scanning electron and fluorescent microscopes) for students from a Sarasota/Manatee area middle school, discussed about scientific research with undergrad students, a collaboration with the chemistry faculty, ~29 school students attended, Clore Lab (NCF), May 8, 2014.
- K-12 outreach: Earth Day Celebration at a Sarasota/Manatee area middle school, presentations and a Q&A session about grains, nutrition and some basic plant biology, ~50 students attended the info booth (before the event was rained out), Clore Lab (NCF), May 2, 2014.
- K-12 outreach: Tour of the university greenhouses and biology laboratories for a group of 'College for Every Student' mentees and mentors, project undergrads provided info and answered questions regarding college and their research projects to the participating middle school students, ~40 middle school students participated, Clore Lab (NCF), Feb 12, 2014.

- Public outreach: Tour of the university greenhouses and laboratories, Sarasota/Manatee area Girl Scout troupe, discussed women in sciences, 8 scouts participated, Clore Lab, Apr 11, 2011.
- K-12 outreach: Multiple kindergarten and 5th grade classes in Sarasota/Manatee area public schools; hands-on activities included seeds, seedlings and germination (K), and cells and their functions (5th grade); 58 students participated, 2010-2011, Clore Lab (NCF).
- Summer Training Program for Undergraduate Students: Sarah O’Connor and Alyssa Sonchaiwanich (NCF) carry out research in the Larkins Lab (UA), May-Aug, 2010.
- K-12 outreach: Multiple outreach activities in 2010-2011 at Suncoast School for Innovative Studies, a preK-8 charter school in Sarasota, Florida, Clore Lab (NCF).
- K-12 & public outreach: 7th Annual Math, Science and Technology Funfest, Tucson Convention Center, Nov 4-6, 2009, Yadegari Lab (UA). Organized a demonstration booth on the subject of “Plant Biology & Our Food” for nearly 6000 middle-school students at this event; used some of the displays and information packets developed by ucbiotech.org. Efforts in the previous year were highlighted in the ASPB newsletter (p19).
- Notes:
K-12 and public outreach activities in the Sarasota, FL area are carried out by co-PI Amy Clore and a dedicated outreach team of undergraduate students from NCF. As of May 2014, the group has collaborated with 5 school (4 public, all Title I, and one private) on outreach activities with a total number of 689 student interactions (including 69 students on multiple occasions).
Funfest is an annual, two-day math and science extravaganza that introduces 4th through 8th graders to diverse math, science, and engineering principles. It is a collaborative effort between Raytheon, the University of Arizona, IBM, Honeywell, US Expo, SciEnTeK-12, local schools, and other partners to show students a real-life perspective of many diverse sciences.
